We can’t give to others what we don’t give to ourselves

We can’t give to others what we don’t give to ourselves.

If we don’t love ourselves we can’t love others. If we are not kind to ourselves we can’t give it to others. If we have no compassion for ourselves then we can’t be compassionate with others. If we do not show ourselves empathy and understanding then we will not see and understand others.

Understanding is a powerful thing that we all seek and yet we do not start with ourselves. We do not take the time to own or be accountable for our journeys. When we own them we can learn and write a different story. We can then seek to understand others too. All to often we fill in the gaps with ourselves and make up stories and we do e we it’s others too.

Equally, what we give to ourselves, we give to others. If we are angry, fearful, unkind, harsh, judging, shaming, and so on, of ourselves then we will treat others the same. If we are kind, compassionate, loving and understanding with ourselves we will be with others.

Inner peace comes from treating ourselves kindly and outer peace follows.

It all starts with us. The world is what we create from our inner state.

Sunny days and the sea

We all have periods in life that are challenging, where we are being tested by the universe, where we are growing and changing. Life is like the sea, we can not control it, and it comes in and out. There are ups and downs in our journeys, which is not for us to control.

All we can control is what we do about the ups and downs and the sea is a great healer and great teacher.

I spent today by the sea, I went for a swim, the waves and currents were powerful. It was a reminder of the force of nature, a reminder that I can not control things beyond myself. It was also very nourishing, and healing. The feeling of the cold water was energising. It reminded me that I am alive in this moment and in this moment is life itself, not all the worries and problems of the mind, just pure simple and beautiful life. It is also a reminder that we can overcome our fears and we can gain the greatest joy from the simple things.

I felt all my thoughts washed away as I struggled with the waves and the strong current…exhilarating and healing.

Then I sat on the beach and then walked along the seafront in the sun. The sun and its energy were equally nourishing and energising for my mind, body and soul.

A swim, the sea and the sun are all pure regeneration and just simply being is complete joy.
