Give ourselves a break

Often we try too hard to be the perfect manager, the perfect partner, the perfect parent, the perfect citizen…

We sort ourselves from others based on judgements or comparisons. We strive to be better and not make any mistakes. We cut ourselves no slack.

We all need to relax a little, take life a little less seriously, laugh more, smile more, and most of all, be kind to ourselves. Realise that it is about the momentum of change or the overall behaviour, not a rigid unrelenting check on ourselves and how we measure up to the often unrealistic expectations we set on ourselves.

Let’s give us a break.

Exam Results

Today is the day for exam results.

Many will be happy and many will be disappointed.

I’m disappointed that we have a culture that measures a young human being’s worth by their achievements in a test.

No results will determine your life, unless you allow it. Perhaps, we could all lead change by not being disappointed in our children, it will not result in anything good.

It will only perpetuate this cycle of results = worth.

For those who are disappointed by their results today, use that to manage your expectations going forward and remember you’re already worthy regardless of your work.

Education is not gained at the industrialised systems education factories only compliance and preparation for a lifetime of servitude.
