Looking at things differently

‘Whirlwind’ by Philip Dodson

How often do you challenge yourself to look at things differently?

It is amazing what comes up when we stop and pause. Take a moment to reflect on the things that we do each day and ask simple things like why do I do that? Why do I do it that way? Is there an alternative way? Do I need to do it all?

This doesn’t suggest endless analysis, overthinking and not taking action.

It is suggesting that we all too often we do things out of habit, good or bad, without assessing its impact, good or bad.

Finally, it gives us a chance to reflect on what we are doing right instead of dwelling on what we are perhaps doing wrong.

Doing things differently opens up uncertain and exciting outcomes.

Reprogramme the brain by what we think about

We were told until more recently, that by the time we were adults, that’s it, the brain is set in cement and we can’t change.

‘Leopards can’t change their spots’. Really?

Convenient for the system, as it avoids too much curiosity.

The fact is you can reprogramme the brain and you can change almost everything. It is question of choice.

We can retrain the brain by what we think, imagining positive futures where we achieve our goals and dreams stops the brain from blocking progress, which happens when we are more pessimistic about likely outcomes.

What’s the plan for this one life you have? We get this one shot at it? What will you programme your brain to do?
