I love magic tricks and I love Dynamo the Magician. For him, it’s all about the end user, the spectator.He enjoys watching their faces light up with wonder and yet incredulity, as he conjures another amazing trick. I like Dynamo because for him it’s all about his audience and their experience (he always slinks off before they realise it).
What I also enjoy about magic tricks, is trying to work out how he does it. Half of me knows it will be an illusion, slight of hand and I am desperate to work out how he does it. The other half just wants to believe that there is real magic.
Teaching in my opinion is like doing magic – that sense of wonder and questioning is what it is about. Except as I teacher I explain how it happens or how it works.
